A favorite old-fashioned Beaufort tradition is the Fourth of July Parade taking place along the waterfront at 11:00 am. - The parade gets better every year and includes kids, pets, wagons, flags, & music. There's even an added treat with the "Sweet Potato Queens" dressed in outlandish costumes! Free ice cream and music follows at the Carteret County Courthouse at Turner & Broad streets. CAROLINA PRINCESS FIREWORKS CRUISE
Join us for our July 4th Fireworks Cruise. We depart at 7:30 pm from 6th Street on the Morehead City waterfront and cruise to Beaufort waterfront and then back to Morehead where you have a front row seat for the lightshow. Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament

An exciting Crystal Coast tradition in mid-June, this is one of the largest sport-fishing tournaments in the country, and is fished by around 200 competitors in substantial cash categories. Cannon Firing at Fort Macon State Park

A cannon crew of volunteers in period attire explain the loading and firing of a typical War Between the States field piece. They use an original 6-pounder cannon in the demonstration and actually fire it with a blank gunpowder charge at the conclusion of the program. Ducks Unlimited "Band the Billfish" Tournament
Morehead City, Carteret County
Tournament Location: Morehead City Waterfront - Tournament events taking place at the Crystal Coast Civic Center and Big Rock Weigh Station Parking Lot, 405 Evans Street - The annual "Band the Billfish" Tournament benefits wetland habitats in North Carolina and waterfowl breeding areas across North America through Ducks Unlimited's Sound CARE program. Since 1988, "Band the Billfish" has raised over $950,000 for conservation in North Carolina, all thanks to the generous contributions of the tournament participants and sponsors. Buddy Pelletier Longboard Memorial Contest

Location: Oceanana Family Resort, Atlantic Beach - Held annually during the last full weekend in July, this event attracts amateur and professional surfers from the East Coast and various countries, including former and current East Coast, ESA and world champions. The contest is held by the Buddy Pelletier Surfing Foundation, an organization that sponsors fellowships and renders humanitarian aid to members of the East Coast surfing community. OWLS Sand Sculpting Contest
Atlantic Beach, Carteret County
Location: On the Beach at Atlantis Lodge, 123 N.C. Hwy. 58 - Pine Knoll Shores, NC - Held on the first Saturday in August, this popular event helps support the efforts of the Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter. The sand-sculpture competition brings out the best and the brightest in Carteret County and beyond. What began as one energetic family's pastime at a reunion now draws some serious competition for adults and children. The creations are spectacular every year, and it's well worth the trip. Repeat competitors and new entries are always welcome. The professional sand sculptors known as Sandy Feat are usually on hand to provide the centerpiece for the contest as well as give out tips on sculpting and design. Beaufort Pyrate Invasion
Beaufort, Carteret County
At the Beaufort Historic Site in the center of downtown, an AUTHENTIC PIRATE ENCAMPMENT is active on Friday evening and all day Saturday with real Brethren of the Sea and wenches of a fascinating variety. Kids of all ages welcome to this "living history" event which will walk you through pirate history and lore. You will learn how to scowl like a pirate, walk and talk like a pirate. Pirates will engage you in interactive activities such as storytelling, sea chanteys, and swordplay. Historical dress, accoutrement and activities appropriate to the late 17th and early 18th centuries are incorporated into this "living history" event. Demonstrations of black powder weapons, swords and cutlasses, seamanship and ways of navigation and more will be throughout the encampment. COSTUMES ENCOURAGED!!! Emerald Isle's 6th Annual Day4Kids

Fall Family Fun Day
Morehead City, Carteret County
On Sunday, September 25th at 2 p.m. kids and parents are invited to the 3nd Annual Fall Family Fun Day at The History Place. The whole family can be part of constructing life-size scarecrows that they can take home for their own fall decorations. Museum Educator, Carol Smith, will lead the event. Each scarecrow will be created for notable people of Carteret County including John Motley Morehead, Morehead City's founder; Emeline Pigott, confederate spy, or even Blackbeard the pirate. Guests will learn a little history about some of the prominent people in Carteret County while having a lot of fun. Guests should bring a pair of denim pants (jeans), a flannel shirt and a pillow case, or for a small charge, the museum will supply them. The History Place will also furnish the straw, stuffing, backbone boards, nails, hammers, rope and pins to hold the scarecrows together. Light refreshments will be served. The cost is $10 per scarecrow and seating is limited. Advance reservations are required.
